Do general dentists perform orthodontic services? The answer is yes! Some general dentists may perform orthodontic services for their patients, but the majority will refer them to an orthodontist.
Not to mention, doing treatment with orthodontist than a regular dentist will need a certain extra charge for their service. For Dr.Mukhriz, there will be an addition of RM1,000 in the total cost of the treatment.
Why?? Other than to examine patients, dental records and X-rays to determine alignment and occlusions, most complicated cases usually will be handled by orthodontist. They consult with patients to determine the best treatment plans and fit patients with braces, retainers and other dental appliances.
In other words, orthodontists will care for their patients over the course of their specific treatment, seeing them regularly for check-ups and to evaluate their progress. For example, most young people who get braces will wear them between two and three years, and may be required to see their orthodontist monthly, increasing to weekly visits closer to when they are removed. Afterwards, yearly check-ups may be recommended to ensure that the teeth do not shift. In some cases permanent retainers are available.
Briefly, orthodontists will work with patients to improve the functioning of their jaws and teeth, accomplish their ideal dental appearance and increase overall self-confidence.
