20 Nov 2019 (Wednesday) – 1st Dental Clinic were thrilled to be sponsoring and participating in UiTM CPR Day which was held at Medical Faculty Lobby, UiTM Sungai Buloh.
This event was a collaboration of PPPUiTM Emergency Department, Medical Student Association (MESTA), UiTM Sungai Buloh and a special appearance from the UiTM CPR Squad.
The objective of the event is to educate people on the right technique of doing CPR in the case of emergency. The most accredited benefit CPR can give you is the ability to save lives. Emergency situations always need immediate action especially CPR as the ambulance might not be able to arrive right away.
WHAT IS CPR?
CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. It’s a life saving technique that helps maintain blood flow to the brain and heart when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped.
WHY CPR IS SO IMPORTANT?
Many knows what CPR is, but how many of them know how to perform CPR techniques in case of an emergency? Providing CPR immediately for the patient decreases the risk of brain damage or death. In short, it could increase the number of survivors in the case of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). These are the main concerns of teaching CPR techniques on the event.
Activities include demonstration of CPR techniques, CPR competition, AED machine booth, Lucas 3 and Autopulse booth and also Basic Life Support (BLS) booth.
Other than students, lecturers and UiTM staff were also encouraged to take part in the activities provided. This is to educate them on the importance of life-saving techniques that can help others and also for them to see the importance of AED machine at the faculty.
Here’s why you should learn CPR:
- CPR saves lives – when properly and promptly performed, CPR can dramatically improve someone’s chance of survival.
- Anyone can learn CPR and everyone should – most people feel helpless to act in the event of a cardiac emergency because they either do not know how to effectively administer CPR or their training has lapsed.
- Prevent brain death – brain death occurs four to six minutes after the heart stops breathing. CPR effectively keeps blood flowing and provides oxygen to the brain and other vital organs, giving the victim a better chance for full recovery. If CPR is given within the first two minutes of cardiac arrest, the chances of survival double.
- Bystander to lifesaver – CPR classes will equip you with the tools and the confidence you need to transform yourself from the role of bystander to lifesaver. CPR certification will give you the necessary training to make the right decisions in the event of a cardiac emergency. Not to mention that it will make you feel smarter!!
